Alexander Koshelev is a successful London-based professional orchestral and chamber musician as well as performs as a soloist. Born in Kiev, Ukraine, Alexander has settled in the UK many years ago, a holder of a Masters Degree from the prestigious Royal College of Music, London, as well as a Bachelors of Music with Honours degree from the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester.
Alexander performs professionally on a range of historical Oboes: including Baroque oboe, as well as “Classical”, ”D'Amore”, “Da Caccia”, and “Modern” Oboes. During the last ten years he has performed professionally in venues such London’s Victoria & Albert museum, the National Gallery, Queen Elisabeth Hall, St. James’ Piccadilly, St. John’s Smith Square and is proud to be a regular musician at the Handel House Museum where he performs with his successful chamber group, Clockwise Baroque Ensemble. Other appearances have included extensive tours in France, also concerts in Sweden, the Ukraine, Croatia as well as regularly based work in the UK.
Alexander's playing has received excellent reviews in "The Times (UK)", London-based newspaper “Anglia”, and Swedish newspaper "Lerums Tidnig" as well as Music Sound award. He regularly broadcasts on the National Radio in the Ukraine, (NRCU Radio 3) as well as has appeared on TV France and the BBC.
As well as being a sought-after performer, Alexander also enjoys being a professional instrumental music teacher. His range of students include children from the age of six as well as adults, especially Piano, Electronic Keyboard and Music Theory as well as Oboe in London schools, successfully preparing students for ABRSM and other exams. Alexander also enjoys being the principal conductor of St Bartholomew’s Chamber Orchestra 2008-2011, regularly conducting classical orchestral concerts and conducts other London orchestras on a regular basis. Alexander also is currently treasurer and a committee member of the South-East London branch of the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM), the professional musicians’ organisation worldwide. He is also a member of Musicians Union and National Early Music Association UK.
Over the last five years Alexander has successfully re-introduced Baroque Oboe to the public in the series of concerts across the classical music venues in Kiev, Ukraine. He has performed and given Master classes at the National Music Academy of Ukraine, Alexander plays an important role in the revival of baroque music in Ukraine as well as being in demand in the UK and Europe.
